Kanaleneiland_Individualized macro goes micro
Kanaleneiland must be improved by a combination of social, economic and political means. Architecture can be the basis. The existing macro structures are respected and used to create better micro environments. The macro structures are detailed and adapted to a wider range of use and users. The borders between public, collective and private space are being clearly defined. Large public spaces are privatized, forming private entrance gardens and intensifying the remaining public area whereby social surveillance is improved. Decorative green will be turned into useful private green handing over the responsibility of space to the individual. The built situation is changed by means of internal restructuring to ameliorate the street-house-relationship. Renovation, adaptation and application of add-on's contribute to new living/working/commercial relations.
